Pioneers in Quality Webinar: Introduction to Joint Commission's New Health Care Equity Certification Standards

Now Available: On Demand Pioneers in Quality Webinar: Introduction to Joint Commission’s New Health Care Equity Certification Standards.
(June 2023)

All people deserve access to safe, quality care. Effective July 1, 2023, a new Health Care Equity (HCE) certification program will be available to recognize hospitals and critical access hospitals that strive for excellence in their efforts to provide equitable care, treatment, and services. This new, voluntary certification program demonstrates a hospital’s commitment to advancing its efforts to achieve health care equity by building upon the Joint Commission’s existing health care equity accreditation standards and recent requirements to reduce health care disparities.

This On Demand webinar will introduce each Standard and Element of Performance, offering examples for how they would be applied, and highlight resources available to assist organizations wishing to excel in their health care equity implementation efforts.

Learning Objectives are:
  • Describe the new HCE certification requirements and the rationale for each
  • Locate and use available resources

This webinar is approved for 1 Continuing Education Credit from: ACCME, ANCC, ACHE, California Board of Registered Nursing, IACET (.1), APA, and ASWB. CE/CEU Credits available for 6 weeks (June 6 - July 24).

Interested in learning more about the HCE Certification Program Standards before viewing the webinar? Review the Health Care Equity Certification Standards (prepublication version) here: https://www.jointcommission.org/our-priorities/health-care-equity/health-care-equity-prepublication/

Webinar Audience/Applicability:
These certification requirements are for all Joint Commission–accredited hospitals and critical access hospitals and non-Joint Commission–accredited hospitals and critical access hospitals that comply with applicable federal laws (including Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Conditions of Participation).

To assist our organizations seeking certification, we have created a Health Care Equity Certification Resource Center (https://www.jointcommission.org/our-priorities/health-care-equity/certification-resource-center/) that will help them meet the new requirements and progress toward health care equity. The resources include strategies (links to resources such as toolkits, templates, and guides), soundbites (brief videos or organizations’ lessons learned), snapshots (brief synopses of approaches used by organizations), and evidence-based interventions.
